The Rich History Of CBD
10 August 2020Thousands of years ago, people had already discovered the cannabis plant and used it for rope and clothing. In addition, hemp and cannabis were already used as part of natural and traditional medicines. It was not until the 1940s that CBD was isolated from the cannabis plant as a unique self-contained cannabinoid. After all, CBD is just one of the many chemical components found in the cannabis plant. Time to dive into the history of CBD!
The History Of Cannabidiol
Cannabis was described as a medicine by the Chinese ruler Shen Nong as far back as 2737 B.C. He referred to cannabis as a medicine for various medicial conditions, such as gout, rheumatism and constipation. During the years that followed, cannabis continued to be recognised as a healing plant in the Egyptian, Greek and Islamic world. Still, it took until 1830, when the Irish doctor William Brooke O’Shaughnessy brought it from India and introduced it into the Western world. After that, it didn’t take long before it was available everywhere.
CBD In The Doghouse
Unlike what you might expect, this great availability didn’t lead to more acceptance. While it was first accepted as a natural medicine, now social pressure and ignorant authorities made it disappear in the doghouse. And it was going to stay there for a very long time, luckily this was not the end for the history of CBD.
Acceptance Of CBD By The WHO
Only in the late 1980’s and in the start of the 1990’s, it was starting to progress slowly but surely. This thanks to the increased knowledge of the endocannabinoid system and its reactions to CBD. Despite all these breakthroughs, it took until 2017 before the first CBD Oil and CBD tablets hit the shelves to be bought by regular consumers. After this, it all went very quickly. Nowadays CBD is even recognised by the WHO. Worldwide and at this very moment, many research teams are studying all the effects of CBD. Because it’s almost too hard to believe that CBD can help against addiction, cancer, inflammation, digestive symptoms, anxiety and chronic pain.
Will CBD Overcome Scepticism And Conquer Its Enemies?
The biggest part of the modern world has legalised the CBD supplements. However, supporters are speculating that the pharmaceutical companies are interfering. They say that the manufacturers of traditional medicine are very unhappy with the rise of CBD. The hope and also the expectation is that common sense comes back and all authorities will legalise CBD.
